The Rangerettes Parents Organization is organized for the purpose of providing the members with the opportunity of learning discipline, good sportsmanship in the field of competition and personal endeavors, improve personal regimen, emphasize the importance of the responsibility of individuals to each other as well as themselves, and to promote fidelity to the community, state and nation.
The Rangerettes Color Guard and Drill Team was organized in 1951, in Berea, Ohio as a Girl Scout unit and entered their first VFW Department contest in 1953, later adopting their present name. The Rangerettes and Wranglers were sponsored by the Brook Park American Legion Post 610 and the Strongsville VFW Post 3345.
The Rangerettes have won over 85 state and regional championships and 5 national championships since entering competition in 1953. The color guard won the American Legion State Championships in 1966, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, and 1986. They won the Ohio VFW State Championship in 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987. The guard won its first National Color Guard Championship in 1982, at the American Legion Convention in Chicago, Illinois.
In 1967, recognizing the need for early training, the Rangerettes began a “feeder” group, which immediately adopted the name Wranglers. These young people, ranging in age from 5-11 years, have earned many trophies and awards on their own in local parades and competitions each year. They placed second behind their big sisters in 1981, 1982 and 1983 at the VFW and American Legion sponsored contests held in Cleveland, and won the VFW State Drill Team Championship, held in Euclid High School in 1986. The Wranglers entertain audiences with exhibitions at Ohio Indoor Performance Association (OIPA) competitions during the winter. They help provide the Rangerettes with competent girls needed to fill their ranks each year.
The Rangerettes are one of the original founding members of the Ohio Color Guard Circuit, now the Mideast Performance Association. They now compete in OIPA. In 1988, the Rangerettes began concentrating on winterguard competitions. Throughout the 1980’s, 1990’s, and early 2000’s, the Rangerettes won numerous competitions throughout the state of Ohio. They have also traveled to Florida, Illinois, New York, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Nevada, California and Michigan for Regional Competitions where they were finalists. In 1991 the Rangerettes A was the WGI Midwest World Class Champions. They were WGI world class finalists in 1991 and 1992 and the WGI Mideast Open Class Champions in 1995. In 1998 and 1999 The Rangerettes sponsored the R2 Performance Group, a World Class Color Guard, and were WGI World Class Finalists in 1999.
